Career and College Planning
School counselors support students in exploring their interests, setting future goals, and creating a personalized plan for life after high school.
Using tools like Scoir, students can research colleges, careers, and scholarships. Counselors also help students connect with college representatives, explore career pathways through Westbrook Regional Vocational Center and Portland Arts and Technology High School, and engage in real-world experiences through the Aspire Gorham program—a community-wide initiative linking students with local businesses and organizations to inspire future planning at every grade level.
College and career planning are key parts of the GHS school counseling program. Counselors begin working with students in 8th grade to develop a four-year academic plan aligned with future goals. Juniors take part in individual planning meetings focused on exploration and postsecondary options, while seniors receive ongoing support with applications to colleges, careers, and financial aid. For questions, please contact your counselor.
